Fiber Optic SDI Extender Set - Up to 6.2 miles (10Km)
Extend 3G/HD-SDI Signals on a Single Mode Optical Extender
The KanexPro Fiber Optic SDI Extender is a simple extender designed for extending 3G-SDI & HD-SDI signals over fiber up to a distance of 6.2 miles (10 Kilometers). Supporting resolutions up to HD 1080p/60. The fiber extender uses pluggable and interchangeable fiber SFP design with LC connector. Applications: Ideally, fiber based transmissions are the most reliable and secure method of delivering digital HD video, audio, data over long-haul fiber optic cables mainly deployed in government, command and control systems and digital signage applications where security and high-resolution imagery is critical for day to operations without any signal downtime or degradation.

Questions
- How far can the SDI-EXTFIBERPRO extend an SDI signal over fiber?
- The extender set is designed to extend 3G, HD, and SD-SDI signals over single-mode optical fiber up to 6.2 miles (10 kilometers), supporting resolutions up to HD 1080p/60, using a pluggable SFP module with an LC connector.
- How is the extender set installed?
- Disconnect the +12V DC adapter, connect the video source (SDI or optical fiber) to the appropriate connector, connect the SDI equipment or fiber cable to the BNC or LC connector at the far end, then reconnect the +12V DC adapter.
- Firmware upload to the extender is not completing. What should I check?
- Confirm the Mini-USB cable connects the unit to the PC, then plug and unplug the DC adapter to cycle the connection status to Connected before selecting the firmware bin file and clicking Start in the upload tool.
- What SDI standards and data rates does the extender support?
- It supports SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI at transition rates of 2.970Gb/s, 1.485Gb/s, and 270Mb/s, with auto-sensing of the incoming SDI standard.
- What audio does the extender pass?
- The extender supports embedded audio up to 8 channels at 24-bit/48KHz within the SDI signal.
- Does the extender re-clock the SDI signal on the coaxial side?
- Yes, the unit includes a built-in signal equalizer and re-clock function on the coaxial SDI connection.
- How is firmware updated on the extender units?
- Firmware is field-upgradable over the integrated Mini-USB port. Connect the converter to a PC with the Upload Firmware Program tools.exe, cycle the DC adapter to move the connection status from Connect to Connected, select the firmware bin file, and click Start; a PASS message confirms completion.
- How does auto-sensing between SD, HD, and 3G-SDI simplify deployment?
- The extender automatically senses whether the incoming signal is SD, HD, or 3G-SDI, so it does not need to be manually configured for the source format being extended.
- There is no SDI output at the Fiber-to-SDI end. What should I check?
- Confirm the fiber cable is fully seated in the Fiber Input port and that the correct SFP (RX, TC31R-D) is installed, then check the front panel LED indicators for SDI Locked status and the detected SD/HD/3G format.
- The Input Source LED shows Un-Locked. What should I check?
- Confirm the SDI or fiber source is connected and active, and that RG6/RG59 75 Ohm coaxial cable is used on the SDI side; the LED indicates SDI Un-Locked until a valid signal is detected.
