Compatibility & Interoperability: Recommended Managed Switches

Overview

KanexPro AV over IP requires a managed switch with specific settings. This article lists tested and recommended switch models for JPEG2000, H.265, and SDVoE deployments.

  • Cisco SG350-28 / SG350-28P (PoE) — Fully tested. Easy IGMP and VLAN via web GUI.
  • Cisco SG550-28 / SG550-28P (PoE) — Stackable. For larger deployments.
  • Netgear M4250 series — AV-focused. Pre-configured IGMP snooping profiles.
  • Cisco Catalyst 9200L — Enterprise-grade. Multi-VLAN campus deployments.
  • Ubiquiti UniFi USW-Pro-24 — Compatible. Requires CLI configuration for IGMP and MTU.
  • Cisco Catalyst 9300 / 9500 — Enterprise-grade 10G. Fully tested for SDVoE.
  • Netgear M4300-28G-PoE+ — Managed 10G-capable. Mid-size SDVoE deployments.
  • Cisco Nexus 93xx series — Data center grade. Large SDVoE deployments.

Switches to Avoid

  • Unmanaged switches — IGMP snooping unavailable. Will not work.
  • Consumer smart switches — Often lack IGMP querier or MTU config.
  • ISP-provided routers/switches — Multicast behavior unpredictable.

VLAN Notes

Isolate AV traffic on a dedicated VLAN. Enable IGMP snooping and querier on the AV VLAN. IP controller must be on the same VLAN or have inter-VLAN routing configured.
