Overview

Every output port on the FLEX chassis includes an independent scalar — each output can be set to a different resolution, regardless of the source’s native resolution or what other outputs are doing. This allows a single system to drive mixed display environments: 4K TVs, 1080p monitors, and HD projectors simultaneously from the same chassis without signal conversion hardware.

Per-Output Scaling

Scaling is configured per output port in the web GUI:

  1. Navigate to Output Settings in the chassis web GUI.
  2. Select the output port to configure.
  3. Under Output Resolution, choose from:
    • Auto (EDID follow): Output resolution follows the connected display’s EDID. Recommended for most setups.
    • Manual override: Force a specific resolution (e.g., 1920×1080@60, 3840×2160@60, 1280×720@60).
  4. Set the scaling mode:
    • Fill: Stretch to fill the output resolution (may change aspect ratio).
    • Fit (letterbox/pillarbox): Scale to fit with black bars to preserve aspect ratio.
    • Crop: Scale and crop to fill without bars.
  5. Apply. The output immediately scales to the new resolution.

Supported Output Resolutions

  • 3840×2160 @ 60/30/25/24Hz (4K UHD)
  • 1920×1080 @ 60/50/30/25/24Hz (1080p)
  • 1280×720 @ 60/50Hz (720p)
  • 1024×768 @ 60Hz (XGA — for projectors)
  • 1920×1200 @ 60Hz (WUXGA — for widescreen monitors)

EDID Management

EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is the data a display sends to the source describing its supported resolutions and audio formats. Incorrect EDID handling is a common cause of no signal or wrong resolution on matrix systems.

EDID Modes

  • Pass-through: The chassis forwards the connected display’s EDID directly to the source. Default mode. Works for most installations.
  • Fixed EDID: The chassis presents a fixed EDID to all sources regardless of connected displays. Useful when displays have mismatched EDIDs or when sources must always output at a specific resolution.
  • Custom EDID: Upload a custom EDID file to present specific capabilities to sources. Advanced use case for broadcast or specialized display environments.
  • Copy EDID: Copy the EDID from a specific output and apply it to one or all inputs. Useful for establishing a consistent EDID baseline across all sources.

EDID Best Practices

  • Use Fixed EDID when video wall displays have mismatched native resolutions or report inconsistent EDIDs.
  • Use Fixed EDID when CATx runs are long — EDID pass-through over long CATx runs can occasionally be unreliable.
  • Lock sources to their fixed EDID before finalizing installation to prevent sources from changing resolution during system updates or display swaps.
  • For 4K sources: ensure the EDID presented supports 4K60 4:4:4 and HDR if the source needs to output HDR content.

Use Case: Mixed Display Environment

A typical large venue deployment with the FLEX-MF24X36 might have:

  • Bar TVs (1080p60) — outputs scaled to 1920×1080
  • Main feature display wall (4K60) — outputs at 3840×2160
  • Projector (WXGA, 1280×800) — output scaled to 1280×800
  • Operator monitors (1080p60) — outputs at 1920×1080

All from the same chassis, same sources, no external scalers needed.
