Overview

KanexPro JPEG2000 AV over IP supports up to 9×9 video wall configurations over a standard 1G managed network. This guide covers how to design, configure, and optimize a video wall deployment using the AVO-IPJP2K encoder/decoder family and the AVO-IPCTL-JP2K controller.

Supported Configuration

  • Maximum video wall size: 9×9 (81 displays)
  • Codec: JPEG2000 only — H.265 and SDVoE do not support video wall mode
  • Resolution per display: Up to 4K60
  • Bezel compensation: Supported — configure horizontal and vertical bezel width in mm
  • Layouts: 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, custom grid, and mixed layouts

Equipment Required

  • One AVO-IPJP2K encoder (or AVO-IPJP2KS / AVO-IPJP2KD) per source
  • One AVO-IPJP2K decoder per display
  • AVO-IPCTL-JP2K controller
  • Managed 1G Ethernet switch with IGMP snooping and jumbo frames (MTU 9000) enabled

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Network Preparation

  • Enable IGMP snooping and IGMP querier on the switch
  • Set MTU to 9000 on all AV ports
  • Assign all encoders, decoders, and the controller to the same subnet

2. Physical Installation

  • Mount displays in the intended wall configuration
  • Connect each display to a dedicated AVO-IPJP2K decoder via HDMI
  • Connect all decoders to the managed switch
  • Connect the source to an AVO-IPJP2K encoder and connect the encoder to the switch
  • Connect the AVO-IPCTL-JP2K controller to the switch

3. Controller Configuration

  1. Open the AVO-IPCTL-JP2K web GUI in a browser
  2. Navigate to the Video Wall section
  3. Select the grid layout (e.g., 3×3)
  4. Assign decoders to grid positions by dragging them into the layout editor. Match the physical position of each display in the wall
  5. Set bezel compensation values (horizontal and vertical bezel width in mm)
  6. Assign the encoder source to the video wall
  7. Apply the configuration — each decoder will immediately render its portion of the source image

4. Bezel Compensation

Bezel compensation adjusts the image crop on each display panel to account for the physical bezel width, making continuous images appear seamless across panels. Measure the bezel width of your displays in millimeters and enter the values in the controller GUI under Video Wall → Bezel Settings.

Switching Video Wall Sources

To change the source displayed on the video wall, route a different encoder to the video wall group via the controller matrix or REST API:

Best Practices

  • Use identical display models across the wall for consistent brightness, color, and bezel dimensions
  • Label each decoder with its grid position (e.g., R1C1, R1C2) during installation to simplify layout configuration
  • Use static IP addresses for all decoders in the video wall to ensure consistent grid assignments after reboots
  • Test bezel compensation with a full-grid test pattern before final handoff
