Overview

This guide covers the physical installation of KanexPro AV over IP encoders and decoders — from unboxing to first power-on. Complete this step before configuring the network or routing.

What You Need

  • AV over IP encoders (one per source) and decoders (one per display)
  • HDMI cables (source to encoder; decoder to display)
  • Ethernet cables — CAT5e minimum, CAT6 or CAT6a recommended
  • Managed 1G or 10G switch (see Compatibility & Interoperability: Recommended Managed Switches)
  • Power supply for each encoder and decoder (included)

Step-by-Step: Encoder Installation

  1. Mount the encoder near the source device. Allow for adequate ventilation.
  2. Connect the source to the encoder’s HDMI IN port.
  3. If using USB KVM: connect a USB cable from the encoder’s USB port to the source computer’s USB port.
  4. Connect an Ethernet cable from the encoder’s LAN port to the managed switch.
  5. Connect the power supply and power on the encoder.

Step-by-Step: Decoder Installation

  1. Mount or place the decoder near the display.
  2. Connect the decoder’s HDMI OUT port to the display’s HDMI input.
  3. If using USB KVM: connect a keyboard and mouse to the decoder’s USB ports.
  4. Connect an Ethernet cable from the decoder’s LAN port to the managed switch.
  5. Connect the power supply and power on the decoder.

Wall Plate Encoders

For AVO-IPJP2KWP and AVO-IPJP2KWPM: route Ethernet to the wall plate location, mount the bracket, connect source HDMI and Ethernet, snap the face into the bracket.

Fiber SFP (AVO-IPJP2K Only)

Insert a compatible SFP module (LC connector, 1G multimode or single-mode) into the SFP cage. The device auto-selects copper or fiber based on active link.

  • Power LED: Solid = powered on
  • Link LED: Solid = Ethernet link established; Flashing = active traffic

First Boot

After power-on, allow 30–60 seconds for initialization. Devices auto-discover each other on the same subnet with IGMP snooping enabled. Access the web GUI via DHCP-assigned IP address in a browser.
