Features & Configuration: USB KVM Setup

AVO-IPJP2KUC-ENC AVO-IPJP2KUC-ENC 4K60 JPEG2000 AV over IP BYOD Encoder — USB-C & HDMI Dual Input Auto-Switch with PD 100W Laptop Charging, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos & ARC/eARC over… Product page →

Overview

USB KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) over IP allows you to control a remote computer using a local keyboard and mouse, with the video delivered via the AV over IP encoder/decoder pair. No additional KVM hardware is required — KVM signals travel over the same network connection as the video.

Supported SKUs

  • AVO-IPJP2K — JPEG2000 Encoder/Decoder with USB KVM
  • AVO-IPJP2KD — JPEG2000 Dante Dual LAN with USB KVM
  • AVO-IPJP2KUC-ENC — JPEG2000 BYOD Encoder with USB (encoder only)
  • AVO-IP265HDK-ENC — H.265 1080p KVM Encoder (USB HOST port to the computer)
  • AVO-IP265HDK-DEC — H.265 1080p KVM Decoder (USB DEVICE ports for keyboard and mouse)
  • AVO-IP265-4K — 4K60 H.265 transceiver (USB HOST in ENC mode; USB 1.1 DEVICE ports for keyboard and mouse in DEC mode; KVM seat management requires the AVO-IPCTL-265)
  • AVO-IPSDV-4K — 4K60 SDVoE transceiver (USB 2.0 HOST in ENC mode; USB 2.0 DEVICE ports for keyboard, mouse or flash drive in DEC mode; 10G network)

Note: The Slim model (AVO-IPJP2KS) does not support USB KVM.

How It Works

  • Encoder side (remote computer): Connect the computer to the encoder via HDMI. Connect a USB cable from the encoder’s USB port to the computer’s USB port.
  • Decoder side (local workstation): Connect the decoder’s HDMI output to the display. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to the decoder’s USB ports.
  • When the encoder-decoder pair is routed, keyboard and mouse inputs at the decoder are transmitted over IP to the encoder, which presents them to the connected computer as local USB devices.
  • On the H.265 KVM pair, one decoder holds KVM control of a given source at a time; control is switched through the controller or web GUI.

Setup Steps

  1. Connect the encoder HDMI input to the remote computer’s video output.
  2. Connect a USB cable from the encoder USB port to the remote computer.
  3. Connect keyboard and mouse to the decoder USB ports. On a JPEG2000 decoder, use the USB 1.1 DEVICE ports; its USB 2.0 DEVICE ports are for other USB 2.0 peripherals such as flash drives.
  4. Connect the decoder HDMI output to the local display.
  5. Ensure the encoder and decoder are routed to each other via the web GUI or IP controller. Leave JPEG2000 units in unicast mode (CA1, the factory default) for KVM; the AVO-IPJP2K does not support KVM in multicast mode (CA2). In unicast each encoder feeds one display, and KVM roaming across several encoder/decoder pairs requires the AVO-IPCTL-JP2K controller.
  6. Keyboard and mouse control is now active. On the JPEG2000 models, USB 2.0 devices (flash drives, etc.) can also be shared; the H.265 KVM pair carries keyboard and mouse control.

Supported USB Devices

  • USB keyboards and mice (HID) on all models above
  • USB 2.0 flash drives and storage devices on the JPEG2000 models, and flash drives on the AVO-IPSDV-4K (USB 2.0 DEVICE ports)
