What the EXT-USBC2C4K-40M does

The EXT-USBC2C4K-40M is a two-piece extender kit that carries a laptop's full-featured USB-C connection to a distant USB-C display over a single CAT6a cable. The transmitter accepts one USB-C input — DisplayPort Alt Mode 1.4a video, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 data, and USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 — and the receiver presents a full-featured USB-C output that combines DP Alt Mode 1.4a video and USB 3.2 Gen 1 data on a single connector. That lets a USB-C interactive panel or monitor connect with one cable while its touch and hub functions return to the source. It is built for lectern-to-display collaboration and presentation rooms.

How far can it extend, and over what cable?

The kit reaches up to 40m/130ft at 4K and 35m/115ft at 5K over a single CAT6a U/FTP 23AWG-minimum cable, direct-wired. The run between the two boxes must be a straight-through connection from the transmitter's AV-USB3 OUT to the receiver's AV-USB3 IN — do not cross-connect the ends. The two short USB-C cables at each end are passive: 1.5m/4.9ft for USB 3.2 Gen 1 or 2m/6.6ft for USB 2.0. A surge protection device is recommended to protect the electronics from spikes and surges.

What video, data and audio does it pass?

Video runs at up to 4K60 4:4:4 with an 18Gbps bandwidth and HDCP 2.3 (HDCP 1.x is also supported). Beyond standard 4K it handles 480i to 4096x2160@60, ultrawide modes such as 3440x1440@60 and 5120x1440@60, and 5120x2160 (50Hz 4:4:4 / 60Hz 4:2:0). HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG all pass through, with 8/10/12-bit color and RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0. USB carries USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 at a transfer rate up to 2.5 Gbps; 5 Gbps operation is not supported. Both ends de-embed analog audio to a 3.5mm output (LPCM 2CH), and RS-232 passes through on a 3-pin phoenix connector at each end.

What connects at the receiver end?

The receiver's USB-C OUT connects to the display or monitor. Alongside it are two downstream USB-A ports and one downstream USB-C port, each supplying 5V/1.5A, for cameras, speakerphones, storage and other peripherals over USB 3.2 Gen 1. The receiver also provides a 3.5mm AUDIO OUT for de-embedded audio and an RS-232 port for pass-through to a control system.

Does it charge the laptop, and how is it powered?

Yes — the extender delivers up to 100W of USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 back to the source over the same USB-C cable, but only when the transmitter is powered from its own included 24V/7.5A supply. For the extension itself, bi-directional 24V PoC lets you power either the transmitter or the receiver from that single supply and feed the far end over the CAT6a cable. If you need laptop charging as well, the supply must sit at the transmitter.

Control and monitoring

Integrators control the kit through an ASCII API over the USB-C SERVICE port at 115200 baud, 8N1, covering HDCP mode, 25 EDID presets (two user-defined), USB port power, status, reboot, reset and firmware updates. Both ends ship in black metal enclosures and are ESD-tested to IEC 61000-4-2 (±8kV air-gap, ±4kV contact). For HDMI displays and projectors, use the EXT-USBCPD4K-40M instead.
