SW-5X1PS-70M Audio: Dante, Line Levels and the 3×3 Matrix

SW-5X1PS-70M SW-5X1PS-70M 5×1 HDMI/USB-C Seamless Presentation Switch with HDBaseT 3.0 Out — 4K60 to 40m… Consolidate Five BYOD and Legacy Sources with Seamless Switching, KVM, Dante Audio & HDBaseT… Product page →

The SW-5X1PS-70M handles audio as well as switching video. It has an analog line input and output, Dante 2×2 audio I/O and a built-in 3×3 audio matrix. You can embed or de-embed analog and Dante audio, and each output has its own EQ, delay and level. For integrators building presentation rooms, this means the switch can feed the room's amplifier or Dante system directly, with no extra audio box in the rack.

Applies to: SW-5X1PS-70M, the 5×1 HDMI/USB-C seamless presentation switch with HDBaseT 3.0 output.

What audio connections does the switch have?

The switcher has one analog LINE IN, one analog LINE OUT and one Dante port. The Dante port connects to the network switch that serves your other Dante devices, and it both sends and receives two channels. The HDBaseT receiver also has an analog LINE OUT, so you can pick up audio at the display end of the run. The switch supports both analog and Dante audio embedding and de-embedding. Audio is LPCM 2.0 at 48KHz.

What can I adjust in the 3×3 audio matrix?

Every output has a 31-band graphic EQ covering 20Hz–20kHz at ±10dB, with a flat curve and five custom curves. Each output also has these settings:

  • Channel mix: stereo, left, right or L+R
  • Delay from 0–50ms
  • Level
  • Mute

Every input has its own level and mute. A master out control adjusts the outputs you choose together. Day to day, RelayAV (KanexPro's AV control app) gives the room volume and mute, along with source, layout and preset recall. The Dante side can also be managed from Dante Controller.

What line levels should connected equipment expect?

LINE IN accepts up to 8.2 dBu (2 Vrms), balanced or unbalanced. LINE OUT reaches 8.2 dBu (2 Vrms) when wired balanced but only 2.2 dBu (1 Vrms) when wired unbalanced, so set the next device's input sensitivity to match how you wired it. The terminal wiring is:

  • Balanced: L+, L−, ground, R+, R−
  • Unbalanced: L+, ground, R+

If the analog audio sounds distorted or overloads the next device, check two things. First, confirm the source does not go above 8.2dBu (2Vrms) into LINE IN. Then check whether the output is wired balanced or unbalanced.

How do I correct audio that is out of sync with the picture?

The analog LINE OUT on both the transmitter and the receiver has an audio output sync delay of 0 to 50 ms. Increase it until the sound lines up with the picture. For Dante audio, you can set the latency to 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10ms.

How clean is the analog audio path?

On both the transmitter and receiver analog outputs:

  • Signal-to-noise ratio is 93 dB @ 2Vrms, 1kHz, A-weighted.
  • THD+N is <0.1% @ 0dBV, 1kHz.
  • Frequency response is (+0.5 dB, -1 dB) 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

Input impedance is 10K Ohms and output impedance is 330 Ohms.

Can room settings be reused in the next room?

Yes. You can export the switch's settings and import them into another unit, so a tuned room setup can be copied to the next room. The switch also stores 5 named preset scenes. You can recall them from the front panel, RS-232, TCP/IP or the Web GUI.
