Centralized management, access control, and multi-VLAN routing for enterprise Dante networks
Dante Domain Manager (DDM) is an optional paid application from Audinate that adds centralized management, role-based access control, multi-VLAN routing, and audit logging to a Dante network. All KanexPro AUD-DTE- products and Flex Matrix Pro cards are DDM compatible.
When to Use DDM
ℹ NoteFor single-site, single-VLAN installations, standard Dante Controller is sufficient and DDM is not needed.
DDM is appropriate when:
- Dante spans multiple VLANs or subnets (standard Dante Controller cannot route across VLANs without DDM)
- Multiple users need controlled access to Dante routing with role-based permissions
- Audit logging of routing changes is required (government, healthcare, education compliance)
- The installation has many Dante devices across multiple physical locations managed centrally
- Domain separation is required to prevent cross-routing between production environments
DDM Core Concepts
DomainsA logical grouping of Dante devices with its own routing namespace and access permissions. Devices in one domain cannot route to devices in another without explicit cross-domain configuration. Use to separate environments (e.g., “Main Hall” vs. “Rehearsal Room”) or isolate department audio infrastructure. Users and RolesRoles include Administrator (full access), Domain Manager (manage assigned domains), and User (view-only or limited routing). AV technicians can manage their zones without access to other domains or system-wide settings. Multi-VLAN RoutingStandard Dante uses mDNS which does not cross VLAN boundaries. DDM replaces mDNS discovery with a centralized directory, allowing devices on different VLANs to discover each other and establish audio routes — provided the network permits UDP traffic between VLANs and the DDM server is reachable from all VLANs.Installation Overview
- Install DDM on a dedicated Windows Server or PC reachable from all Dante VLANs. This machine must be online whenever Dante routing is required.
- Enroll Dante devices using Dante Controller (DDM-aware version) or the DDM web interface. All AUD-DTE- devices enroll without additional configuration.
- Create domains and assign enrolled devices to appropriate domains.
- Create user accounts and assign roles per domain.
- Configure inter-VLAN network rules to allow UDP traffic between the DDM server and all Dante device subnets (port 4440 for DDM control).
DDM & Flex Matrix Pro
All Flex Matrix Pro I/O cards (HDMI, DisplayPort, CAT, Fiber, SDI) are DDM compatible. In large enterprise installations combining Flex Matrix Pro chassis with AUD-DTE- adapters, DDM provides centralized management of both the matrix card Dante interfaces and the peripheral adapters from a single admin console.
